Defining “Creativity”

…and it happened again. One of the speakers at a meeting that I was graphic recording for, came up to me and said “You are so creative”.

I always take such conversations forward and indulge them in a chat about my beliefs on creativity. I believe that what I do is simply the most obvious expression of creativity. However being able to explain intense topics in a 15 minute speech using metaphors is also being “creative”. Making numbers come alive in easy to understand patterns in excel is also creativity. Making simple and clean PowerPoint decks is creative too.

To rest my case, the same speaker who had approached me, in his talk spoke about 3 styles of approaching an issue; he used the metaphor of water transport…speed boats, yatch and a cruise liner to explain the options. That was brilliant!!!

To him and all such “creative” speakers, thanks for making my graphic recordings enjoyable.
